Backwards Design and Organizing Content

Scope, focus, sequence, alignment

Scope--everything you could teach within a set course.

-will always be more than you could actually teach.

Focus--Narrowing down--decide what to actually teach

    -Use standards

    -things students find interesting

    -applicable

Sequence--Order you are teaching in

    -chronological

    -thematic

    -simple to complex

Alignment--Lining everything up

    -Working towards the same outcome

Objectives: Global, educational and learning.

Global objective: what is the purpose?

Educational objective: strands and standards

Learning objective: lesson sized chunk

Backwards Design

1. Identify desired results (goals and objectives)

2. Determine acceptable evidence (assessments)

3. Plan learning experiences (lessons)
